Who are we?
This site was started in May 2012 after a meeting among researchers in AI and games in Dagstuhl, Germany. The effort was initiated by Ken Stanley and joined by all the researchers and developers on the Editorial Board.
The AI community has been working on experimental games for many years but until now there has been no place that people outside the community can learn about this research or (most importantly!) find these games to play. This site fills that gap by providing a central location for the newest in research-grade game AI.
Game AI can mean many different things. Traditionally, it might be the brain behind the behavior of non-player characters in the game. But it can be a lot more. It can auto-generate levels, automatically design its own content, and adjust difficulty to the perfect level for the player. The games on this site reflect the diversity of possibilities at the cutting edge of game AI.
